The PacWest Poker Classic

DEEPSTACKS POKER TOUR & CHINOOK WINDS CASINO PARTNER
FOR THE 2013 PACWEST POKER CLASSIC

In what was one of the most exciting and fun-filled tournaments on the DeepStacks Poker Tour, some of the Pacific Northwest’s best poker players came to Chinook Winds Casino Resort for the inaugural PacWest Poker Classic. A field of 165 players took to the felt to try their skill (and luck) at the $1100 buy-in, $100,000 Guarantee Main Event for their shot at the top prize of $37k+$3k package to the 2013 DeepStacks Poker Tour World Championship at Mohegan Sun in December. By Day 3, just 9 players remained under the bright lights of the DeepStacks Poker Tour 360 degree live streaming feature table.

With over 5,000 people logged in on the internet to watch the action unfold, the eliminations started quickly as Joseph Paysero (9th) hit the rail in just over an hour of play. Shortly after that Brian London (8th), joined his fellow final tablist on the sidelines as only 7 players were left. Eliminations then quickly came to a halt, as the players began to feel the slight pressure of winning it all. 3 hours later, Raymond Dandree (7th), James Waltenburg (6th) and Brad Buck (5th) all feel victim to the final table chip leader, Seth Baldwin.

Soon after, William Melrose (4th) and Troy Lent (3rd) followed suit and were eliminated from the Main Event. Play was then stopped for the money and the trophy presentation to the last 2 players, Stephen Gilburt and Portland resident, Seth Baldwin. However, play didn’t last long as both players got it in preflop just 5 hands into heads-up action. Gilburt moved in from the button and was snap called by Baldwin, who tabled 1010. Gilburt flipped over 78o as both players went to the flop.

The flop ended up being a life saver for Gilburt when the flop rolled the 6h-7s-9d, giving Gilburt a pair with an open ended straight draw. Baldwin was still in the lead with his pocket tens and picked up a gutshot straight draw to be in great position to win it all. Unfortunately, Baldwin’s lead quickly evaporated as the 7c peeled on the Turn, giving Gilburt trip 7s and a hammerlock on the hand, with Baldwin drawing to the last two 10s in the deck. The River came a meaningless 2h, giving Gilburt the win and the distinction of being the first-ever DeepStacks Poker Tour PacWest Poker Classic Main Event Champion.

Baldwin finished 2nd for $27,896. The final results were:

1st Stephen Gilbert  $39,816.00
